Polaroid-Photos are like memories – you can not really share them and two people never can have exactly the same. There is only one original and no more copy.
This limitation makes it extraordinary – especially for the one who gets to keep the only existing Polaroid hard copy of an important moment or an important person. That’s the major difference to an easy to share digital simulation of the Polaroid look via App or Instagram. So if you had the choice, what would you take? Remember, you are an original and no copy.
If you aren’t sure you can try this experience: take a digital photo from a moment or person, which or who is really important for you. Print this photo only once and after this delete the file from your hard disc and memory card. Now watch how your relation to this printed photo is changing in comparison to the other 1000000 on your computer or your web accounts.
Here are some photos of the legendary SX-70. And some reproductions of real Polaroids with more than 20 years old timelocks. Perhaps they are no special shots from photographic view, they mean a lot to me anyway.
If you like this post have a look at the TIME:LOCK Theory.
And for those who like Polaroid, I can recommend the mindblowing short film ´Lost Memories´ – written, directed and post-produced by Francois Ferracci.
