Between 1982 and 1985 I studied at the Mies van der Rohe College for Design in Aix la Chapelle. Inter alia I was in the photography class and one day I got the exercise of doing something on the topic “impermanence”. So I created a series about lost places. Empty buildings and factories captured on more than 100 Polaroids. Perhaps not a particularly original or new solution of the task and not the best photos ever been made. But staying in ruins of impressive buildings with such aura had been mind-blowing. Never again I felt the same calmness at a photo- or film-shooting.
Before the new millennium came all buildings have passed away. Like the girl. Miss you.
