It took almost 30 years until I found a handbag for men which suits me and is like a tool for my tools. In the meantime, I bought some extraordinary (solar) messenger bags and other cases – which did their jobs very well. But secretly I was jealous of women`s pouches size and weight. Until I found an old Rimowa-Catalog from 2003 and in it a stylish and tiny 20 x 20 cm (8 “x 8”) aluminium men’s suitcase – the Rimowa Piccolo. Next to Rimowa themself the Lufthansa branded these clutch and sold it exclusively in their first-class shop.

Today it is very difficult to find one of these rare pieces. And at eBay, they will cost more than 1000 Euros. So I was very lucky to find a Rimowa branded version at a small second-hand store. It was in the best Rimowa condition (means with some nice patina or traces of life) and I bought it without any extras for 150 Euros. As a strap, I take a vintage leather one that formally was used on a gun. And as a stuff organiser, the smallest GRID-IT from cocoon fits perfect.

Now I can take essential tools extremely stylish and secure with me when I am on the run – like my Rotring and Vitalcarry pens, my Minox desk tripod, a Zippo, a flashlight, a Leatherman Micra, a power bank and my little Windows 10 Netbook.

Es dauerte fast 30 Jahre, bis ich eine “Männertasche” fand, die zu mir passt, Handtaschengröße hat und wie ein Tool für meine Tools ist. In der Zwischenzeit habe ich einige außergewöhnliche Rucksäcke oder (Solar-) Kuriertaschen gekauft – die ihre Arbeit sehr gut gemacht haben. Aber insgeheim war ich neidisch auf das Format und das Gewicht von Handtaschen für Frauen. Bis ich in einem alten Rimowa-Katalog aus dem Jahr 2003 die 20 x 20 cm “Handtasche für Männer” and – den Rimowa Piccolo. Neben Rimowa-Exemplaren gab es seinerzeit auch solche, die von der Lufthansa gebrandet und exklusiv über deren eigenen First-Class Shop verkauft wurden. Heute ist es sehr schwierig, diese “Handtaschen” noch zu finden. Und wenn, werden sehr schnell 1000 Euro und mehr dafür aufgerufen. Ich hatte großes Glück, ein original Rimowa gebrandetes Exemplar in einem kleinen Second-Hand-Laden zu finden. Der Minikoffer war in bestem Rimowa-Zustand ( mit schöner Patina und Spuren des Lebens ) und ich kaufte ihn für 150 Euro ohne Zubehör. Als Innen-Organizer nutze ich die kleinste Version des GRID-IT cocoon. Und als Trageriemen verwende ich einen alten Gewehrgurt aus Leder. Wenn ich jetzt unterwegs bin, kann ich meine Essentials immer sehr stylisch und gleichzeitig sehr sicher transportieren: Dinge wie meine Rotring- und Vitalcarry-Stifte, mein Minox-Tischstativ, das Zippo, eine Micro-Taschenlampe, mein Leatherman Micra, eine Powerbank und mein kleines Windows 10 Netbook.
